It’s true − Bosss Bah Pizza in South Braintree has been sold.
But the now-former owner promises the pizza recipe will stay.
The shop at 915 Washington St. in Braintree Square has been a favorite of both Braintree-area residents and South Shore bar style pizza enthusiasts since Joe Keegan and his family first opened the place in 2022.
The Bosss part of the name is Bos for Boston and SS for South Shore Bah Pizza, Keegan said.
Word that Keegan had sold the place was not met warmly by customers worried about the flavor-fate of the pizzas.
So, Keegan recently took to Facebook to give his word that the pizza a would stay true to its original taste and his employees would not be Bertucci’d out of their jobs under the new ownership.
“It mattered a lot to us that the staff, the recipe, and the location would stay the same,” said Keegan, who has pizza-making in his blood. His first job was at D’Ann’s Restaurant in Holbrook, where he worked as a teenager alongside his brothers and dad making bar pizza in the 1970s. Before that, his father worked at Lynwood Café in Randolph.
Keegan and his family signed the lease to open Bosss Bah Pizza on Sept. 1, 2021. But just a few days earlier, on Aug. 25, he had been rushed to Boston for emergency heart surgery. As Joe Keegan continued recovering, his son, Andrew Keegan, took on the task of fixing up the shop on his own. They officially opened for business on Jan. 31, 2022.
In his post, Keegan says the town’s support is the reason they did so well from the start.
“Braintree is a great town with a lot of great people,” many of whom have since become friends.
Andrew has since moved to Arizona to start a life of his own. Over the past year, Joe ran the shop with help from his wife, Mary. and their two other adult children, Kyle and April, along with their staff.
Keegam said some health problems and it led him and his family to sell the business.
He thanked his customers and Braintree as a whole for their long-lasting support.
“To the town of Braintree − thank you, thank you, thank you. Bless you all!” Keegan , adding that he and his family will still stop by the shop and stay connected online.
