The Easy-to-Make Italian Chopped Salad…

Written by

Since 1974, the Original Stavro’s Pizza House has served delicious pizzas in Daytona Beach, Florida, with a Greek twist. On the charming Beach Street corner location, customers not only go for pizza, gyros, and baked Italian dishes, they also go for the Famous Stavro’s Greek Salad.

I have a handful of favorite salads that I must eat in certain cities. Examples are the Siam Salad from Leon’s Oyster Bar in Charleston, SC, and the Thai Kai salad from J. Alexander’s, which has multiple locations. But my favorite is this Famous Greek Salad I’m talking about today.

Listed on Stavro’s menu, their salad consists of shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced peppers, onions, ham, salami, feta cheese, olives, and Greek peppers. Then, you add the Stavros vinaigrette, and it’s just so good.

Can you just tell how delicious that salad is?

While nothing beats enjoying this Famous Greek Salad at the original Beach Street location, the 10-hour drive from my home isn’t always practical when a craving hits! My homemade version has become a rotating staple in my kitchen, and I think it should be in yours, too!

A delicious salad with leafy greens, chopped tomatoes, sliced meat, and cheese sits elegantly on a plate. Hinting at rustic charm, part of a round bread rests nearby on the classic red and white checkered tablecloth—your perfect recipe for a refreshing meal.A delicious salad with leafy greens, chopped tomatoes, sliced meat, and cheese sits elegantly on a plate. The perfect pizza salad to serve with pizza … or have on its own. This is already tossed; I use a little less cheese; I also substitute the Kalamata olives for my favorite, Castelvetrano olives! Image: Liza Graves

If I make this salad during the week, it’s guaranteed I’m having it at least twice, as the first one just makes me crave it again. Image: Liza Graves

This is easy, and it’s one of those salads that tastes better than it should. The ingredients aren’t unusual, and while you think you know what it will taste like, the compound effect is that when these ingredients are combined, they outkick their coverage.

And if you are looking for a salad to serve with pizza and you’re tired of a Caesar, you may have found your new favorite.

This is part of my “Lazy Girl High Protein + High Fiber” recipe series. With each one, I list ingredients I always try to have on hand that I use in the recipe. Find my staples used in today’s recipe below:

  • A jar of Castelvetrano olives
  • A jar of pepperoncini peppers
  • Feta cheese (I like Boar’s Head brand)
  • Onions, tomatoes, lettuce
  • Olive oil
  • Red wine vinegar
  • Italian seasoning
  • Dijon mustard

This salad includes deli ham, green bell peppers, and salami. Although I don’t always have these ingredients in my fridge, I make it multiple times that same week.
