The T&A recently launched its Best Chippy 2025 competition, with readers invited to share their favourite businesses.
Nominations were whittled down to 10 – and we are currently profiling the finalists who respond to our questions.
Today, we are shining the spotlight on Cullingworth Fisheries on Halifax Road, Cullingworth.
Darren Wood, owner and fryer, told the T&A: “I’m very proud we’ve made it into the final – and win or lose I would just like to thank everyone who votes for us.”
He said Cullingworth Fisheries was an important part of the community.
“We have a really good relationship with our customers who we can also call friends due to the regular support they give our business week in and week out,” he said.
“Cullingworth is a close-knit and very friendly community.
“We also have customers come from further afield.
“The business is important to the local area as we are the only fish and chip shop in Cullingworth village, and we also support other businesses and schools in the area with various raffle prizes and so on.”

“We feel we stand out from the crowd by using all fresh produce, supplying the best expensive haddock, and making our own batter daily which is a secret recipe handed down from my father, who owned various fish shops.
“Consistency is key in delivering the best product day by day.
“We work long hours to make this happen.”
There is plenty of praise for Cullingworth Fisheries on Google Reviews.
One person said: “When you’re craving decent fish & chips, this is your place to go!”
Someone else commented: “Best fish and chips for miles around.
“We travel from Haworth and won’t go anywhere else.”
Another reviewer spoke highly of the “exceptional” fish and chips sold at the shop.
