Jeff Goldblum’s Fave Sandwich Is a 4-Ingredient Go-To

Actor Jeff Goldblum is one interesting guy. Sure, he may wow us with roles like Dr. Ian Malcom in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises, but he’s always mixing things up, trying his hand at everything from starring as the Wizard of Oz in the Wicked franchise to putting out an album with his jazz band. Unsurprisingly, Goldblum likes variety in other parts of his life, too, especially the kitchen.

In a 2011 Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) thread, fans asked Goldblum all sorts of questions about everything from his favorite jazz musician (Thelonious Monk) to the best advice he’s ever received (“fill your days with what you love doing.”) And Goldblum went all-in, encouraging fans to ask away and claiming to be an “open-faced sandwich.”

Sidetracked by sandwich talk, one redditor asked Goldblum the all-important question: “What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?” Like his choices of roles, the actor’s answers were all over the place, in the best and most Goldblum way possible.

“Oooooooooh. SANDWICH. OH MY GOSH,” he wrote. “Oh my gosh. I love sandwiches.”

But Goldblum’s go-to sammy has changed a lot throughout his 72 years.

“When I was a kid, every day I had a bacon-lettuce-tomato sandwich,” he shared. “Then at some point I switched to tuna fish sandwiches. Then turkey and Swiss with Russian dressing. Now I try to stay in the healthier vein, but I love every moment of my sandwich life.”

Turkey, swiss and Russian dressing between two slices of bread sounds delightful to us. Not only is it a simple, four-ingredient sandwich—it packs some health benefits, too. Deli turkey is a great source of protein, packing 6 grams of protein per slice, and Swiss cheese has more protein than an egg (8 grams per ounce) and nearly 40% of the recommended daily value of vitamin D. And, while bread gets a bad rap at times, it’s actually a good source of fiber and nutrients like iron and folate when consumed in moderation. 

If Goldblum’s other two favorite sammies sound good to you, consider a few of our favorite recipes, like Miranda Lambert’s protein- and apple-packed tuna salad or a BLT served Sandra Bullock-style with a higher ratio of bacon and lettuce to tomato. Or, if none of these are jumping out at you, there’s always Bruce Springsteen’s favorite, a 3 a.m. PB&J, or Kate Winslet’s fav: a grilled cheese made with cheddar cheese and lots of butter.

Regardless of their own favorite sandwiches, Goldblum’s fans loved his quirky response to their question. “I cannot explain the glee this has filled me with,” said one. Another optimistically commented: “My Sandwich Life hosted by Jeff Goldblum coming to the Food Network this fall.” 

It’s been several years since this Reddit thread first popped up on the platform, but we’re still holding out hope that My Sandwich Life appears on a cooking channel eventually. We’d definitely tune in!
