The Sonic Bacon Jam Cheeseburger has been requested a few times over the past couple of weeks so, it made the list. The day before I shot this video I was in the neighborhood of my local Sonic, so I stopped in and gave the Bacon Jam Cheeseburger a try. I thought, “Yeah, copycat!” It’s a simple burger, but the bacon jam really elevates it. It’s one of those burgers that just works. I suggest making the bacon jam a few hours (or day before) you make this fantastic cheeseburger. Cooked this up on my Blackstone Griddle. Bacon Jam Recipe: 1/2 pound bacon, chopped 1/2 onion, chopped 1 teaspoon dehydrated garlic 1/4 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons maple syrup 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon smoked paprika DIRECTIONS In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, reserving about a tablespoon of bacon fat in the pan. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add onion and cook, stirring often, until the onions are caramelized, about 15 minutes. Stir in garlic, brown sugar, maple syrup, vinegar, paprika and cooked bacon. Bring mixture to a simmer then reduce heat to low. Cook until the liquid has reduced and thickened and the onions are jammy, 7 to 10 minutes. Let cool before transferring to a jar. Not just for burgers! Try serving with cheese and crackers! Send your requests here: ballisticrequests@cox.net
