Summer is the perfect time for garden parties, picnics, and social gatherings with friends. Anyone who’s ever hosted a party knows that a bowl of fresh guacamole is always a hit.

It’s vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and incredibly tasty – especially if you know the right ingredients to enhance its flavor. I’ve been whipping up guacamole for years, and there are a few key ingredients I never skip – finely chopped red onion, minced garlic, and fresh coriander. But there’s one secret ingredient that always earns my guacamole rave reviews from everyone who tastes it – cumin.

This earthy spice lends a wonderful depth of flavor and balances out the tanginess of the lime juice. It’s absolutely delicious, super easy to make, and a must-try for your next gathering.

Ingredients

  • Freshly squeezed juice of one lime
  • One tsp of minced garlic
  • ⅓ cup of chopped fresh coriander
  • One teaspoon of ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Four large ripe avocados
  • One small red onion, finely chopped
  • Freshly squeezed juice of one lime
  • One tsp of minced garlic
  • ⅓ cup of chopped fresh coriander
  • One teaspoon of ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

This technique creates a seal that prevents the guacamole from browning, allowing it to be stored in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.

In 2023, the United States led global guacamole consumption, accounting for 185,000 metric tons of the 325,000 metric tons consumed in North America.

This reflects a significant increase from 2000, when per capita avocado consumption in the U.S. was approximately 2.7 pounds; by 2021, it had tripled to over 8 pounds per person.

According to Fortune Business Insights, the U.S. guacamole market was valued at approximately $448.6 million in 2023 and is projected to reach $768.6 million by 2033, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.53%.

This growth is driven by increasing health consciousness, the popularity of Tex-Mex and Mexican cuisines, and the convenience of ready-to-eat products.

Guacamole’s presence in grocery stores, restaurants, and as a staple at events like the Super Bowl and Cinco de Mayo further underscores its widespread appeal.
