Santoro’s Submarine Sandwiches brings family recipes from Boston to Burbank – ABC7 Community Eats

BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) — Santoro’s Submarine Sandwiches to the rescue.

Located in Burbank, less than 10 minutes away from Hollywood Burbank Airport, this sandwich shop is a landmark in the San Fernando Valley.

Santoro’s owner Salvatore Palilla said the restaurant’s location makes it a convenient place for travelers to order a tasty meal.

“People come in, the first place they come is here, and the last place they come is here so they can take the sandwich on the plane,” Palilla said.

Classics include their top-selling pastrami, Italian cold cuts, turkey and meatball subs, and the pepper steak and egg sandwich is something you can’t find everywhere.

With small and large options, if you’re throwing a party or just really hungry, they’ve got you covered.

You’ll never see lettuce on a Santoro’s sub, and provolone is the only cheese they use.

For dessert, grab a cannoli with an imported Italian shell and a special in-house filling.

Seventy years in business, Santoro’s got its start with five brothers in Boston.

Like many of us, one of them said, “I’m tired of the cold. I’m going to California,” Palilla said.

The rest is history.

Palilla has been the proud owner of the Burbank location for nearly 30 years.

“It feels really good, actually,” Palilla said. “I’m really happy for the opportunity to do this because it’s a great product. It’s old school.”

The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday, closed every Sunday except Super Bowl Sunday.
