These Are Officially The World’s Most Popular Desserts

Written by

  • A study conducted by Coffeeness reveals the best desserts around the world, as popularized by viral TikToks.
  • Many of the top desserts fused two foods together or are traditional dishes in certain cities or countries.
  • The most popular desserts are also visually appealing and boast unique textures, colors, and dramatic presentations.

Despite being an “elder” millennial (honestly, who came up with that?), I have learned a thing or two through TikTok. Despite being a social media platform typically geared towards younger demographics, I’ve learned everything from how to create an epic salmon rice bowl to decadent feta pasta. It’s definitely got its merit as a source for recipe inspiration! And that’s not all. It’s also responsible for making certain creations go viral—just look at how Dubai chocolate took off.

In a stroke of genius, Coffeeness, a website and online shop dedicated to all things coffee, utilized AI-powered analysis of viral TikTok videos in order to determine the most popular desserts around the world, and chances are, you’ve heard of (or tried) a handful of them. According to the study, “The highest-scoring desserts share common visual elements: vibrant colors, interesting textures, dramatic presentations or satisfying preparation processes that translate perfectly to TikTok’s short-form video format and intrigue dessert-loving globetrotters.”

Additionally, fusion foods had a big moment across the board, with items like New York’s cronut (a croissant-donut hybrid) and Japan’s taiyaki cones (fish-shaped fried dough cakes topped with ice cream). But that doesn’t mean that traditional treats aren’t having a moment too—classics like stroopwafels (popular in Amsterdam) and baklava (popular in Turkey) have also made their mark on TikTok.
