Habit Burger & Grill trolls In-N-Out with new billboard

Written by

Habit Burger & Grill is once again taking a playful jab at In-N-Out Burger after the rival chain slipped in USA Today’s 10 Best fast food burger rankings.

Habit’s signature Double Char beat out burgers from In-N-Out and Five Guys to secure the top spot for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Southern California-based chain marked the win with a billboard near an In-N-Out drive-thru by LAX.

This year, Habit returned to the same location with the same congratulatory message, but with a twist. The “2” in In-N-Out’s 2024 ranking was scribbled out in red and replaced with a “4,” a nod to the company’s drop in rankings.

USA Today’s 10Best editors and a panel of burger experts selected the nominees, and readers voted to determine the winners.

This year’s top 10 list is:

  1. Double Char – Habit Burger & Grill

  2. Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger – Jack in the Box

  3. Double-Double – In-N-Out Burger

  4. ButterBurger Cheese, Double – Culver’s

  5. Cheeseburger – Five Guys

  6. ShackBurger – Shake Shack

  7. Freddy’s Original Double – Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

  8. Double Meat Whataburger – Whataburger

The Double Char features two chargrilled beef patties topped with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayonnaise on a toasted bun. Cheese is available upon request.

Habit Burger & Grill opened its first location in Santa Barbara in 1969, when it was known as the Hamburger Habit. The chain has since grown to more than 380 restaurants across 14 states and in international markets.
