The New Blue Apron Makes Flexibility the Star Ingredient

Written by

Traditional subscription-based meal kits aren’t for everyone: maybe you’ve found that you run out of time to cook before your ingredients go bad, or forget to pause your subscription when you’re on vacation.

Blue Apron has long been the industry’s most popular meal kit. CNET’s editors have consistently given it high marks for value and for its inventive-but-not-complicated recipes, and awarded Blue Apron an Editor’s Choice Award in 2025.

Now, Blue Apron is relaunching with new options that put flexibility and customization at the heart of their recipe. From now on, Blue Apron won’t be tied to a weekly subscription designed for families of two or four. While you can still get the classic meal kit you prepare yourself, you can also choose fully prepared meals à la carte or occasional family meals you only have to assemble and bake, all without committing to a regular delivery schedule.

The future of meal kits is here

Blue Apron’s new options reinvent meal delivery with everyone in mind, keeping the chef-designed recipes and top-tier ingredients, but letting you decide what type of meals you want, how many you need, and how often.

The new lineup includes three types of options:

  • NEW: Dish by Blue Apron: Fully prepared, chef-designed meals crafted with wholesome ingredients and designed for nutrition standards—at least 20g of protein, a good source of fiber, and no artificial flavors or colors. With 50 rotating weekly options, they’re ready in five minutes with zero prep.

  • NEW: Assemble & Bake: Family-friendly, one-pan meals with pre-chopped ingredients, ready for the oven in under five minutes. With 15 weekly rotating choices plus 10 perennial favorites, these meals deliver bold flavors without the hassle.

  • Meal Kits: The flagship offering, now faster, more varied, and more flexible than ever. Featuring premium ingredients like Achaar from Brooklyn Delhi, Tutto Calabria Calabrian Chilies, and Emmi Roth Cheese, these kits let you experiment in the kitchen—without locking you into a subscription.

Traditional meal kit deliveries were based on choosing a certain number of meals per week and a number of portions based on your household size, which were shipped to your home every week on a schedule. But meal prep needs come in all shapes and sizes: maybe you want prepared lunches to take to work, or just need a lift with a couple of family meals per week. Or maybe your schedule changes regularly, making it a challenge to commit to a regular subscription.

New ways to ship and save

It’s not just about the type of meals you get: the new Blue Apron makes everything flexible and customizable. If you prefer regular shipments you don’t have to think about, you can select Autoship and Save, which lets you set your nutrition and ingredient preferences and your desired shipping frequency. Plus, you save 5% on every order.

You can also sign up for Blue Apron+, a new loyalty program that gets you free delivery, exclusive perks, and access to 12,000+ recipes and how-to videos. For just $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, you get more from your Blue Apron deliveries and save money, especially if you plan to order frequently.
