One of Columbus’ most comforting comfort foods is being served again close to the neighborhood where it was originally served.
Nancy’s Home Cooking’s chicken and noodles, still talked about around town five years after the Clintonville diner served its last meal, are being added to the menu at a Northland pool hall recently bought by the man who has owned the recipe since 2024.
Tim Burkhammer, who owns Starliner Diner in Hilliard and York Steakhouse in the Hilltop, has been serving chicken and noodles at those restaurants for more than a year now. He now owns 8 Ball Sports Bar & Billiards, too, at 2100 Morse Center Road and is changing its name to Starliner Lounge & Billiards.
Some of the Hilliard Starliner’s dishes — including Nancy’s chicken and noodles — will be added to the menu at the lounge, he said.
“They’re going to be here every day, seven days a week,” Burkhammer said. Rick Hahn, the last owner of Nancy’s Home Cooking, taught all of Burkhammer’s employees how to cook the dish, the latter man said.
Burkhammer, who expects to connect the Morse Road bar soon with the Grubhub, DoorDash and Uber Eats meal-delivery services, has begun advertising directly to Clintonville residents with direct-mail flyers headlined, “Clintonville’s Legendary Chicken & Noodles Have a New Home in Starliner Lounge!”
He’s selling a family-sized meal of chicken and noodles, green beans, tossed salad, mashed potatoes and York Steakhouse dinner rolls, for $40 through the end of September.
Burkerhammer’s new bar still has outdoor signage for 8 Ball, but he said it will be rebranded soon. He plans to turn Starliner Lounge into a members-only club, but he said people who come for its food will be allowed in without membership.
Nancy’s Home Cooking closed in 2020 after 52 years in Clintonville and a few months Downtown. Burkhammer purchased the name and recipes of the restaurant in 2024.
