Recipe below:
Homemade Bacon Cheeseburger
What You’ll Need
- 1 burger bun (lightly toasted)
- 2 x 100g premium beef mince patties (from your local butcher)
- 2 slices American cheddar cheese
- 2 rashers streaky bacon
- 1 tbsp caramelised onions (see recipe below)
- 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
- ¼ tsp yellow mustard
- 3 slices dill pickles
- Salt & pepper
Caramelised Onions
Ingredients:
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp butter
- ½ tbsp olive oil
- Splash of water
Method:
- Add onion and salt to a small pot over low heat. Stir for 2 minutes until the onions release some liquid.
- Keep cooking for 5 minutes, until the liquid has mostly evaporated.
- Add butter and olive oil. Stir and cook for 5–7 minutes until onions are soft and translucent.
- If the onions start sticking, add a small splash of water. Cook until golden and jammy. Set aside.
Cooking the Burger
- Heat a frying pan to medium heat.
- Cook bacon for about 1½ minutes per side until crispy. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, cook the beef patties. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty, remove from heat, and let it melt gently.
Building Your Burger
- Place both cheesy beef patties on the bottom half of the toasted bun.
- Spoon on the caramelised onions.
- Add the crispy bacon.
- On the top bun, spread ketchup and mustard, then add the pickles.
- Close the burger, take a big bite, and enjoy!
