I Tried Costco’s Viral Dessert Bars & This Was The Best Flavor

Written by

  • Costco’s newest viral bakery item is the dessert bar variety pack, which features four different bite-sized treats.

  • Our team tasted all four flavors and ranked them from worst to best.

  • The surprise winner alone is worth buying the whole pack.

Every time Costco introduces a new bakery item, fans go wild. And the bakery section’s new dessert bar variety pack is no exception. Since first hitting shelves in September, members have been raving about the handheld treats, with some even claiming that it’s the best dessert the warehouse has ever sold.

Each variety pack includes 32 individual bars. The ability to choose between 4(!) different desserts without committing to a huge serving makes this pack perfect for parties. But not all of these bars have been created equal.

Our team took on the task of tasting them all to rank them from worst to best. So next time you see these bars being passed around at a potluck, you know which ones to reach for first.

4. Chocolate Chunk Brookies

You may have already tasted the double-chunk chocolate cookies in the food court (which replaced the churros, R.I.P.). This dessert bar takes that same buttery chocolate flavor and swirls it in with a dense, fudgy brownie.

It seems like a match made in heaven, but we were honestly a little underwhelmed. The cookie and brownie are both so similar in flavor and texture that the combination becomes a bit one-note. We prefer these two treats separately.

3. Macaroon Madness

We were a bit confused by this bar at first bite. The soft, gooey interior almost resembles apple pie filling. The shredded coconut is present, but is almost completely drowned out by the caramel, chocolate, and white chocolate.

The combination isn’t bad—we’d even argue that it’s a great gateway macaroon for coconut skeptics—but we’d struggle to get through more than a couple of bites.

2. Pecan Caramel Brownies

If you’re the kind of person who steers clear of nuts in brownies, this isn’t for you. Our team, on the other hand, absolutely loved these—not just for the pecan flavor, but for the added crunch.

What the chocolate chunk brookies lack, these brownies make up for in spades. Each bite is brimming with chopped pecans and features a drizzle of caramel and chocolate. The added sweetness makes these brownies taste extra special without being overpowering.

1. Wildberry Macaroon Bars

If one of the flavors in this variety pack is running out first, it’s most likely going to be this one. These chewy coconut bars are topped with a layer of berry jam before getting dusted with a generous amount of toasted coconut.

The variety of textures keeps every bite interesting, and the berry jam adds the perfect burst of brightness to balance out the coconut. This dessert bar stands out from the crowd. It’s worth buying the variety pack just to try this one flavor.
