We’ve had our fair share of absolutely diabolical recipes, from Matthew McConaughey’s infamous tuna salad to Caesar salad martinis to destroying a perfectly good Costco dessert. Our stomachs have certainly been on quite the journey.
And while sometimes we may raise our eyebrows or question what our forks are actually touching, most of the recipes we try end up surprising us for the better. So, when we heard about “Florida Chili,” we knew we immediately had to jump in heads first—raised eyebrows and all.
What Is Florida Chili?
Traditional chili includes beans, meat, vegetables, and usually a tomato base. Sometimes there are variations to the recipe, but for the most part, we associate the word ‘chili’ with these common ingredients.
Florida Chili, however, doesn’t use any of that.
Last month, Totino’s shared a video on the brand’s Instagram account of someone tossing pizza rolls, ranch, cream cheese, hot sauce, and shredded cheese into a slow cooker—and then serving it. Behold: Florida Chili.
The comments were…skeptical. “What’s the opposite of ‘compliments to the chef?'” someone asked. Others commented on how unsure they were about the dish—as was Allrecipes Recipe Developer and Producer Natalie Gravois.
But despite the skepticism, she still decided to give it a try and was left only with three words: “Cheesy. Tangy. Buffalo goodness.”
“I think combining those two college game day foods into one dish is a really fun way to spark conversation and bring back all those memories,” said Gravois. “If you wouldn’t dip a slice of pizza into your Buffalo chicken dip, you’re lying.”
