The Secret Ingredient in Jimmy Fallon’s Avocado Toast? Taylor Swift’s Bread

Written by

You’ve probably noticed, but Taylor Swift has been pretty busy lately—breaking touring records, releasing new music, and getting engaged. And yet, despite her packed schedule, the pop star still finds time to bake bread. In fact, she admits her love for baking bread, specifically sourdough, has now tipped into obsession territory.

Speaking on the New Heights podcast with then-boyfriend Travis Kelce (as the chronically online know, he was about to propose) and Jason Kelce, she said, “We’re very deep in a sourdough obsession that escaped me from my life.” She went on to add: “The sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way. I’m really talking about bread 60 percent of the time now. It’s become a huge, huge factor.”

Swift doesn’t stop at regular sourdough. According to Travis, the blueberry is his favorite, but she also makes blueberry lemon, cinnamon swirl, cinnamon raisin, and even funfetti sourdough.

And, of course, like any good famous person, Swift gifts her baked goods to her celebrity friends, too, including Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Jimmy Fallon.

“I’m just always baking bread and texting my friends and being like, can I send you some bread?” she continued. “I need some feedback. Do you like this one better than you liked the other one? I did the rise a little differently.”

In a recent Instagram post, Fallon showed off his gift from the pop icon, which came wrapped in a brown paper bag with a sticker of one of Swift’s cats. Handwritten on the bag was: “The loaf of a dough girl.” He captioned the post, “Not gonna lie: Taylor actually makes the best sourdough.”

He followed up with his own avocado toast recipe, which, like most avocado toast recipes, happens to be vegan. If you want to whip up your own version, all you need to do is slice some sourdough and top it with mashed Hass avocado, sea salt, chili flakes, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Fallon’s recipe is classic and already delicious, but there are plenty of ways to jazz up a slice of avocado toast. You could add a spicy-sweet maple drizzle, some sautéed mushrooms, or even a scoop of tofu scramble. Fallon’s version calls for Swift’s signature sourdough, but unless you’re on her friends list, you can swap in a store-bought loaf, or make like Swift and bake your own from scratch. “I’m on sourdough blogs,” said Swift. “There’s a whole community of us, and I didn’t know it.” She added, “There are people like me out there, and this is where the internet is good.”
