The $3.96 Aldi Frozen Meal My Son Packs for School on Repeat

Written by

My teenage son can be a bit challenging to feed when it comes to school lunches. He likes variety, and he’s sick of the school cafeteria. I believe that at age 15, he’s old enough to make his own lunches. Since he doesn’t have a lot of time between athletics and academics to make elaborate meals—and I’m also quite busy with work—we stock up on pre-made meals from Aldi.

I’m a big fan of Aldi’s ready-to-eat meals, and right now it’s carrying prepared noodle bowls that my son and I just can’t get enough of: Fusia Drunken Noodles Chicken Bowl.

  • Price: $3.96 for a 12-ounce bowl
  • Why I Love It: It’s almost like having Thai takeout for school lunch. It has a ton of chicken and is perfectly seasoned.

Why He Loves Aldi’s Drunken Noodles Chicken Bowl

I’m so glad I grabbed one from Aldi’s freezer section—trying new things sometimes pays off. At 12 ounces a bowl, it cost just $3.96, which is cheaper than buying lunch at school.

“It’s really savory and rich, Mom,” my son told me. “It’s almost like having Thai takeout for school lunch.” Large chunks of tender chicken mingled with wheat noodles, sliced green and red bell peppers and onions all tossed with a soy-based sauce. And despite the name, there is absolutely no alcohol, so it’s appropriate for school lunches and anyone under age 21.

I went back to Aldi and stocked up with three more bowls, so I actually got to try one before my son devoured them all. To my taste buds, they are savory, rich, and perfectly spiced. I could pick out a little bit of brown sugar, umami from fish sauce, and just a tinge of basil goodness.

I recommend adding a bagged salad or some fruit on the side. Serving it with spring rolls or egg rolls would be a nice touch. If you want to make this dish a little fancier, you could add slivered almonds or diced green onions on top.

In addition to enjoying these bowls for school lunch, my son told me that he considers them to be the ideal afterschool snack. I’d add that they are also great for a quick dinner, especially if work and extracurricular activities and transportation to and from your home makes life a little hectic.

In any case, I recommend checking out Fusia drunken noodle bowls. For my family, they’re an answer to easy lunches that we’ll never tire of.
