Heat vs. food
See what the heat does to ice cream cones, cream puffs and more.

A taste of a nostalgic summertime treat mixed with the adulthood of a beloved Wisconsin brew.
Leinenkugel’s and New York-based Tipsy Scoop have teamed up to launch Summer Shandwiches, a “Midwestern take on an ice cream sandwich infused with Summer Shandy,” according to the boozy ice cream company’s website.
This news comes just in time for National Ice Cream Sandwich Day — we know, we know, there’s a holiday for everything — which is Aug. 2.
The Shandwiches are made with sweet Shandy frozen custard, featuring the light, lemonade flavor of Summer Shandy with up to 4.2% ABV, a ripple of cheese fudge swirls — we are the cheese state, after all — brandied cherries and flaky kringle to honor the Racine delicacy. The custard is sandwiched between crispy, sweet corn shortbread cookies — a nod to backyard cookouts, the website said.
How and where to buy Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandwiches
Summer Shandwich purchasers must be at least 21 years old, the companies noted.
Starting July 31, there will be daily drops for the Shandwiches for a limited time, according to a Leinenkugel’s spokesperson.
People can purchase the Shandwiches online in six-packs for $49.99 at tipsyscoop.com/collections/nationwide2/products/leinies-summer-shandwich.
If you happen to find yourself near one of Tipsy Scoop’s Barlours — sorry, there aren’t any in Wisconsin — you can buy Shandwiches there, too (while supplies last).
