Southern Living can officially confirm: The rumors are true regarding Florida’s most famous salad. Fans of Columbia Restaurant’s famed 1905 Salad can buy the salad’s trademark dressing at Publix stores. That’s right, no more mixing it up or driving to the restaurant to grab a bottle.
The Tampa-based restaurant is known for their 1905 Salad—a savory mash-up of iceberg lettuce, tomato, baked ham, Swiss cheese, olives, Romano cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon—that has gone viral online. But the pièce de résistance has always been the beloved salad’s dressing, which can be bought directly from the restaurant and is easy enough to make—until now.
When our story about the 1905 Salad, which includes a recipe directly from the restaurant’s fifth-generation caretaker, debuted on social media last month, savvy Southern Living readers were quick to point out two things: 1) how much they loved this salad and 2) that the dressing was available at every Southerner’s favorite grocer.
“Publix sells the 1905 dressing. Look on the top shelf where the other salad dressings are. I have made this salad numerous times. Secret – don’t leave ANY ingredient out,” one user wrote.
Fans were quick to weigh in on this revelation.
“Is the dressing good? Sometimes the store bought doesn’t taste as good,” one user asked.
To which the original poster assured them, “I agree because I do not like store bought dressing. This is different! It is dee-licious. Shake it up good and don’t over dress it!”
Columbia Restaurant Salad Dressing retails for $5.69 at Publix, which makes grabbing a bottle and making this hearty salad at home even easier.
