Love pizza? Whether it’s New York-style, deep dish, thin crust or Hawaiian, Americans love eating it by the slice. Mississippi is no different.
Food Network has named the best pizza restaurant in all 50 states, and a family-friendly favorite took the title of best in the Magnolia State.

What restaurant has the best pizza in Mississippi?
Food Network chose Sal & Mookie’s New York Pizza & Ice Cream Joint as the best pizza in Mississippi. The Jackson location was the one selected for the list.
“These pies aren’t just good for Mississippi — they’re just damn good, period,” Food Network wrote.
Chef Daniel Blumenthal and Jeff Good opened the restaurant in 2007, bringing authentic New York-style pizza to the local food scene.
There’s also an ice cream parlor where you can try samples and build custom shakes and sundaes.
There’s a sister location in Madison with its own menu so plan ahead if you’re going to order. (A third location in Biloxi closed in 2023.)
What’s on the menu?
The menu features pizzas that they named after landmarks in NYC, like Empire State or 4-Train. But the menu also has American and Italian favorites like pasta, wings and burgers.
“The team put a painstaking amount of research into their pizza recipe, coming up with a key list of ingredients (King Arthur flour, whole milk mozzarella and imported Italian tomatoes) and just the right ratio of dough to sauce to cheese. Every pie is cooked in a brick-lined, gas-fired oven to ensure a crust that’s both chewy and crisp,” Food Network wrote.
Food Network recommends a lunchtime slice and scoop as a way to treat yourself.
