The return of a favorite pastry at Greggs

Greggs is excited to announce the return of one of its beloved products that customers have long missed. The vegan steak bake, first introduced in 2020 following the successful launch of the vegan sausage roll, quickly gained popularity.

However, fans were seriously disappointed when it was removed from sale in May 2024, and many expressed their outrage on social media. Now the vegan steak bake, which disappeared from the menu last year, is back under a new name – Vegan Latte.

Customers have already reacted. Here is one comment on X, formerly Twitter:

“Where did the vegan steak bake go? Don’t do this to us.”

Another added:

“Hey, why are you stopping the vegan steak bake!”

Another commentator noted:

“My prayers were heard when it was first brought back, don’t take it away again.”

Greggs previously confirmed that the vegan steak bake was removed to make way for a “delicious plant-based favorite.” Now this ‘replacement’ is back on sale, just with new packaging.

The Vegan Latte consists of pieces of Quorn mycoprotein mixed with diced onions and vegan sauce, all wrapped in golden flaky pastry. The price is from £2.10, and it is already available in stores across the country.

The chain also noted:

“It’s still very tasty, just under a new name. Delicious meat-free pieces mixed with diced onions and vegan sauce, it’s absolutely amazing.”

Expanding vegan options

The return of the product means that Greggs now offers even more vegan options: joining the Vegan Latte are the Vegan Sausage Roll, Sweet Potato Bhaji, Rice Box, and Battered Chips. The chain also offers vegan breakfast options, including the Vegan Sausage Roll for breakfast and hash browns.

The new product can be purchased in-store, via Click + Collect to avoid queues, or ordered for delivery through partners like Just Eat and Uber Eats.

This return comes after The Sun reported the removal of the popular chicken salad roll from the menu.

Retailers and fast-food chains often change their product range based on demand and the latest trends.

This year, the Grilled Chicken Oval Bite also disappeared from the Greggs menu, which debuted in 2016. Additionally, the Special Vegetable Curry was removed in May.

Recently, Greggs launched a summer menu that included a Caramelised Biscuit Latte and a new range of hot sandwiches featuring Korean Chicken.

The menu now features a Korean-style Chicken Burger for £4, a BBQ Chicken Wrap for £3.80, and a BBQ Chicken Baguette in Korean style for £3.60 – all part of the ‘Hot Sandwiches, Chips and a Drink’ promotion.

More news from Greggs

Greggs is forced to abandon self-service in fridges due to rising theft.

The experiment continued after an investigation showed that brazen thieves target some stores every 20 minutes.

One store worker in East London remarked:

“The thefts were so serious before.”

Some Greggs stores have also been fitted with screens like banks, or implemented full-Time security guards.

In the meantime, Greggs recently joined forces with KFC to launch a new sausage roll served with the famous KFC sauce.

The return of the vegan steak bake at Greggs reflects the demand for plant-based options among shoppers. This indicates that the company is ready to respond to consumer requests and adapt its offerings according to their taste preferences. It may also signal the growing popularity of vegan food among a wider audience.
