The 3-Ingredient Sandwich Margot Robbie Ate ‘Every Single Day’ While Filming

Written by

We love learning about the go-to comfort foods of our favorite stars—especially when they’re ridiculously easy to recreate at home. Over the years, we’ve uncovered several three-ingredient gems, like Katie Couric’s peanut butter and bacon sandwich and Paul McCartney’s childhood favorite, the sugar butty. They’re the kind of simple snacks you can always go back to.

Now, Margot Robbie has revealed her own three-ingredient favorite, and it’s another combo we could happily eat on repeat. But if you’re expecting an Australian classic, like Nicole Kidman’s beloved cheese and tomato toastie, think again. Robbie’s sandwich of choice actually leans more Irish than Aussie. Here’s why.

Margot Robbie’s Favorite 3-Ingredient Sandwich

While promoting her new movie “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” alongside Colin Farrell, Robbie opened up about the food that kept her going on set—and it came courtesy of Farrell himself. As it turns out, the stars’ off-screen bond was cemented not just through the work, but also by a simple sandwich

Farrell admitted he was “highly impressed” with Robbie’s appetite and her desire to “A, B, E,” or “always be eating.” So, to keep his co-star fueled and focused during long filming days, the Irish actor took it upon himself to make her a snack every night, ready and waiting the next morning.

So what was the sandwich Robbie loved so much she ate it every single day?

Meet Margot Robbie’s Chippy Sandwich

She calls it a “chippy sandwich,” also known as a potato chip or crisp sandwich.

The idea of adding chips for crunch isn’t new to us—we love sneaking a couple of kettle-cooked chips into a fresh tomato sandwich or adding a handful of barbecue potato chips to a melty bologna sandwich (we have Snoop Dogg to thank for that one). But in this version, the chips aren’t just an add-on, they’re the whole point.

Now, variations of this comfort snack exist all over the world, but the ingredients here are what make it distinctly Irish.

Robbie’s go-to sandwich features one very specific chip: Tayto Cheese & Onion. If you haven’t tried them, Tayto is an Irish brand best known for inventing the world’s very first flavored potato chip back in 1954. And with Cheese & Onion as the signature flavor, this choice is a true Irish classic.

The second key ingredient is another Irish delicacy (and one of our favorite fridge staples): Kerrygold butter. Farrell said he added a few “lashings” to each slice of bread before pressing it all together.

But Farrell’s job wasn’t finished until he wrapped the sandwich in foil, labeled it with an “M,” and left it in the fridge to be ready before Robbie’s early call times.

“I ate one every single day,” Robbie admitted. “It was my favorite part of this job.”

So when you watch Robbie and Farrell in “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” know that their on-screen chemistry had a little help from a humble—but unforgettable—three-ingredient chippy sandwich.
