Costco is one of our favorite grocery shopping destinations, whether we’re looking for bargain bulk buys a tasty prepared meal or seasonal desserts from the bakery, like pumpkin cheesecake or caramel apple pastries. And don’t even get us started on the glorious food court—home of the $1.50 hot dog, infamous chicken bake, signature pizza, and so much more.
Costco’s food court has earned a reputation from shoppers for fostering some creative DIY hacks, from the $3 Costco Coke Float to ordering pizza like a pro to the extremely polarizing “jochizza.”
But the latest Costco hack from social media involves one of our favorite fall treats from the bakery and an iconic food court order.
Costco Fan Creates a Pumpkin Pie Sundae With Food Court Soft Serve
If you’re a fan of Costco’s luscious pumpkin pie, this trick will be right up your alley. The bakery treat weighs nearly four pounds and costs about $5.99—making it a steal for the amount of pie you’ll be able to enjoy. And this year, Costco brought back its pumpkin pie earlier than ever, prompting fans on social to get into the fall spirit.
One Costco shopper shared a new way to enjoy the seasonal dessert, and it’s a hack that sounds like a fall dream come true. In a recent video posted on both TikTok and Instagram by @morganchompz, the food fan demonstrates how to make a pumpkin pie sundae…in the car.
The treat starts with purchasing a pumpkin pie from the bakery, then a quick stop to the food court for a $1.99 cup of vanilla soft serve. (While you’re there, you’ll also want to grab an extra cup, plus a knife and a spoon.)
Then the magic happens. In the video, Morgan starts by spooning half of the ice cream into the extra cup and adding a slice of pie. Finally, the social media star tops the layer of pie with the remaining ice cream and gives it a good mix before diving into the dessert.
“There’s something about that smooth, spiced pumpkin pie filling paired with the creamy ice cream,” Morgan says in the video, after tasting the sundae.
TikTok fans were just as excited about the hack. One person said, “I love their pumpkin pie and their soft serve! I need to try this!” Another person added, “Costco employee, and I’m doing this tomorrow.”
Others were a bit skeptical, wondering if purchasing an entire pie was worth it to make the dessert, but fans agreed that the combo should be a real menu item at Costco’s food court.
“Costco needs to just make this a seasonal food court item!” exclaimed one fan on Instagram. “Costco is missing out on that hack for sure,” said another.
With all the pumpkin spice treats popping up this time of year, we can’t deny that this creation sounds pretty tasty—not to mention budget-friendly. And if the idea of buying a whole pie sounds daunting, maybe recruit some friends to enjoy the dessert with you!
