I Never Leave Trader Joe’s Without This $3.99 Frozen Meal

Written by

While I often have good intentions about meal prepping each week, sometimes my busy schedule or my laziness gets the better of me. Luckily, Trader Joe’s offers some tasty and good-for-you meals that are the perfect choice when I just don’t feel like making another boring salad or spending $15 at a restaurant.

As an avid Trader Joe’s shopper, I’ve tried quite a few of their frozen meals, and while there are so many good options to choose from, there’s one meal I always stock up on when I visit. The Green Chile Chicken Bowl is a comforting chicken, cheese, and rice bowl with a green chile sauce that I eat again and again and never get tired of.

About The Green Chile Chicken Bowl

The Green Chile Chicken Bowl is available in the entrees and sides section of the freezer aisle. Each bowl is packed with 22 grams of protein and costs just $3.99. You can either prepare the bowl in the oven or the microwave, but I typically opt for the microwave since it’s ready in just 5 to 6 minutes.

The bowl is made with real chicken and cheese, making it easy to forget you’re eating a freezer meal. The green chile sauce successfully adds flavor without overwhelming with spice, and the rice is well-seasoned without getting mushy.

How I Enjoy The Green Chile Chicken Bowl

I keep these chicken bowls stocked in my freezer for a quick and easy lunch option when I don’t feel like cooking or have a ton of time to spend in the kitchen. I usually stock up on several at a time, so I can enjoy them throughout the week.

While these bowls keep me full during the afternoon, they’re also a great option for dinner. For some heartier options, I’ll enjoy the meal with a bowl of salsa or guacamole and chips. Here are some other ways you can spice up these bowls:

  • Add a drizzle of your favorite hot sauce to take spice up a notch
  • Garnish with freshly sliced avocado or chopped cilantro and a splash of lime
  • Mix in some salsa verde for a little kick
  • Add the contents of the bowl to a tortilla to turn it into a burrito
  • Add some greens for a Southwest salad option

So whether you’re looking for a satisfying lunch or a quick and easy dinner, this is a frozen meal staple you’ll return to again and again–or at least I do!
