There are a few rules of hosting I abide by every time I have people over. The first is to pull out all the platters, plates, silverware, and serveware I’ll need the day before the event so I’m not scrambling at the last minute to plate food. The second is to make only tried-and-true meals I’ve tested in my kitchen before—no brand-new recipes that require some troubleshoot.ing
The third is the one that makes hosting the easiest: Include one or two store-bought components in your spread. Sometimes, this is a store-bought dip that I serve with a warmed baguette before dinner starts. It could be yeasty rolls, a veggie platter, or anything that makes your day a little easier.
And because I’m not much of a baker, my store-bought option is often a dessert. I love to support my local bakeries and pick up something fabulous to accompany a filling dinner. But hosting can be expensive, and sometimes I don’t have the extra budget to buy an artisanal pie or cake. That’s where this week’s Aldi Find comes in handy.
The latest rage in Aldi’s Aisle of Shame is this just under $8 frozen dessert fans call a 10/10. There’s no prepping, frosting, baking, or decorating. Simply thaw this delicious dessert, cut, and serve. It’s as simple as that.
Aldi Brings Back a Fan-Favorite Italian Dessert
Allrecipes / Aldi
For one week only, from Oct. 15 through Oct. 21, Aldi will bring back its beloved Specially Selected $7.59 Tiramisu. It’s imported right from Italy, and features “instant coffee-soaked ladyfingers and layers of mascarpone cream topped with cocoa powder.” The elegant Italian dessert is sold in a one-pound tray, with a serving size of six (or one, if you’re anything like this Redditor).
This beloved Aldi dessert has garnered heaps of praise from shoppers through the years. “[It] is way too good,” shared one Redditor. “Better than any tiramisu I’ve ever had from a restaurant. Perfection.” Several shoppers stock up when this annual release comes out. “Hard to find and so delicious,” said one fan. “Found one last year, and it was so incredible! Another great one from the Aldi kitchen!”
If you’re not familiar with tiramisu, there are three essential components: ladyfingers soaked in espresso (and sometimes rum or brandy), sweetened mascarpone cheese, and cocoa powder. No baking is necessary—just layer, chill, and enjoy. Just like a cup of joe, this delicious dessert will put a little pep in your step, thanks to the use of espresso in the recipe.
The best part of this Aldi find is that it’s frozen, so you can buy a few while it’s in stores, and hold on to them for special occasions or for when you’re craving something tasty after dinner. Just make sure to thaw it for at least six hours in the refrigerator before serving.
